Application Parts

NOTE: Electronic letters of support cannot be accepted until an application has been electronically submitted.

1.

Applicant(s) and Visitor

  • Name(s) and contact information of the person(s) submitting the proposal.
  • Proposed visitor's name and affiliation
    • Short (1-page) biography of the proposed visitor, highlighting exceptional qualifications and noting key publications or awards. Briefly discuss the visitor's expertise and ability to communicate to a broad interdisciplinary campus audience and public at large.

2.

Proposal

  • Event Title and summary. Provide a narrative summary (50-60 words) of the speaker's proposed presentation on campus which will be used for publicity purposes.
  • Dates on Campus.
  • Lecture Date(s): List two (2) preferred dates and times for the lecture.
  • Narrative Part I. The proposed event. CAS/MillerComm events are broadly interdisciplinary and are for the benefit of the campus audience as well as the public at large. What impact will this event have on the UIUC community and community at large?
  • Narrative Part II. The proposed schedule. Besides the MillerComm event, the visitor is expected to interact with the campus community, particularly students. The committee thus requests that a detailed schedule of activities while the visitor is at UIUC be included: these might include lunch discussions, classroom visits or invited seminar. Please include arrival and departure information if known.
  • Budget. The committee requests that relevant campus units cooperate, through cosponsorship, across disciplinary lines in developing and financing events and evaluates proposals accordingly.

3.

Letters

Please request three (3) letters from different departments or other organizations/universities.

  • Applicant prepares request for support. After submitting your application, you continue on into the website to generate email messages for each referee. These auto-generated emails attach/enclose the Instructions to Referees with your narrative. Just follow the prompts and click on the "Send this message" button.

  • You are encouraged to contact your three (3) referees ahead of time and ask them to prepare letters of support. The selection committee cannot guarantee consideration of letters received after the deadline.
