Applicants in the arts should submit a similar statement of plans defining the proposed creative activity.

Letters

Three Referees. Provide the name, institution/organization, phone number, and e-mail address for referees. All Referees must be widely recognized scholars or professionals from institutions other than the University of Illinois who are familiar with your scholarly accomplishments.

  • Applicant prepares request for support. After submitting your application, you continue on into the website to generate email messages for each referee. These auto-generated emails attach/enclose the Instructions to Referees with your narrative. Just follow the prompts and click on the "Send this message" button.
  • You are encouraged to contact your three (3) referees ahead of time and ask them to prepare letters of support. The selection committee cannot guarantee consideration of letters received after the deadline.
